New York State Gov. Andrew Cuomo resigned today (Tuesday) following allegations of sexual harassment by many women, which were widely published in the state attorney general's report last week. This marks the culmination of the fall of the democratic governor, who only a year ago won national praise for the leadership he demonstrated with the outbreak of the corona plague.
He will be replaced by his deputy, 62-year-old Kathy Hochul, who was previously a member of Congress. She will be the first woman in the position, previously staffed by 56 men.
Cuomo, who is in his third term, announced his departure with increasing pressure on him even from within the ranks of his Democratic Party. This coincides with the promotion of the impeachment process in the New York House of Representatives, following an investigation that revealed that the governor sexually harassed at least 11 women. Investigators said he kissed women against their will, grabbed their chest or buttocks or touched them inappropriately; Made abusive remarks about their appearance and sex life; And created a work environment "full of fear and threats." He denies it.
