The Olympic Games closed yesterday. Olympics which, as we know, ended with a very rich medal table for Italy that surpassed the absolute record of medals won: 40, against Los Angeles 1932 and Rome 1960, when we had reached 36.


But, given the extraordinary results , how much has there been talk of the Olympics on social media? In this regard, ANSA and DataMediaHub analyzed the conversations relating to Tokyo on Facebook and Instagram 2020 from the day before the start, from 22 July, to the day after the end, until today until 14:00.


Within the pages and public groups of Facebook, in the time frame taken into consideration, in Italian only, over 13 thousand posts related to Tokyo 2020 were published, which generated more than 13.5 million interactions.


The first three posts by number of interactions, and therefore by level of involvement, were related to the duo Tamberi - Jacobs. The post with the highest number of interactions was that of the former premier with over 129 thousand between "like" and "love", almost 5 thousand comments and just under 8 thousand shares.


The second of Italia Team, the official page of all the sports federations that have participated in the competitions, with 130 thousand reactions, all positive of course, almost 2 thousand comments and about a thousand shares.


Finally, a bronze medal, the post of the former goalkeeper of the national football team, by Gianluigi Buffo, who totaled almost 109 thousand between "like" and "love", about a thousand comments and just over a thousand shares.


The panorama on Instagram is completely different, here to absolutely dominate is the TML account - tmlplanet - which takes all three of the first posts for engagement, and also others in the "top 10".


Account with over 5.3 million followers on Instagram, which refers to a Telegram channel that instead has just over 1,500 Followers.


Anyway all the posts are in a "meme" style. The first gets more than 319 thousand likes. The second 313 thousand and the third almost 312 thousand.


It is interesting to note that, although the number of posts on Instagram is significantly lower than that of those on Facebook, instead the level of engagement, the number of interactions is significantly higher than that of those developed on the most populous and populated social network in Italy.


On the other hand, it cannot also be seen that the number of comments on Instagram is significantly lower than on Facebook.


In short, if quantitatively the level of involvement that develops on Instagram is much higher, qualitatively the many comments and the many Facebook shares dominate.
