Ankara-Sana

Turkish official data revealed that about 19,000 Turkish citizens committed suicide during the past ten years due to the growing despair and frustration created by the Justice and Development Party in Turkish society.

In response to a query about the number of suicides, submitted by Fili Agbaba, a representative of the Republican People's Party, the Turkish Minister of Health, Fahrettin Koca, according to what was reported by the Turkish Zaman newspaper, said, "18,772 people committed suicide between January 1, 2019 and January 1, 2020. 1190 university graduates and 853 students committed suicide.

According to the statistics of the Turkish Ministry of Health, an average of 1887 people committed suicide every year, or about six people per day, while this number does not include the period of the Corona epidemic between the years 2020-2021.

Agbaba emphasized in the newspaper that all of these suicides are directly related to the climate of despair and frustration created by the ruling Justice and Development Party. Helplessness and a climate of despair.

A report published by the opposition Republican People's Party in Turkey last February reported a significant increase in suicide rates during the rule of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan due to financial difficulties and high unemployment rates.

While reviewing the report, Tekin Bingol, a member of parliament for the People's Party, said that the reason for the increase in suicide is the desperation of people in poorly governed Turkey, where millions of young people have no future and citizens were left alone and because of the increasing number of companies that went bankrupt, and the increasing debts and powerlessness that forced people to give up their lives .

In light of the high number of suicides, the Turkish Statistical Institute removed suicide data from its 2017 report, and suicide statistics until 2016 were announced as mortality statistics.
