When choosing a monitor we must always ask ourselves the question: what do I need it for?

This will define our options.

If your answer is high-end gaming and entertainment, Samsung's Odyssey G5 curved monitor is a strong contender to take home.

we had the opportunity to try it out and we were amazed by its immersive screen that we rate as a good gateway to immerse yourself in the world of games without spending too much and have a completely immersive experience.

Samsung released this curved monitor in two versions: the 27-inch and the 32-inch.

These screens are the first to have a 1000R curve, matching the natural curvature of the human eye and mixing bright colors to give us good image quality.

Design

When designing the Odyssey G5 monitor, Samsung focused on giving its users a screen with really thin 9mm bezels and at the bottom of the logo it placed a joystick with which all functions are controlled.

While on the back there are a series of lines that accentuate the curvature of the monitor.

In addition, once the input cover is installed and the cables run through the base, the monitor takes on a clean appearance without many cables in sight.

Something that we did not like too much is that there is no possibility to adjust the height of the monitor.

The monitor comes set to a custom picture mode that you can set in HDR mode to maximize brightness for HDR quality images.

Regarding the ports, they are all located on the back: an HDMI, USB 3.0, 3.5 audio jack for headphones or speakers because the monitor does not have built-in speakers.

Use experience

I used this Samsung monitor both to work, watch series and music videos and also to play titles like 'Overwatch' and 'Fortnite'.

The screen's WQHD resolution will give you an image 1.7 times higher than Full HD with incredibly detailed and sharp images in the case of compatible content.

However, it is important to note that some content was not adapted to the 21: 9 format.

For the work part, the use of the monitor takes a main role and the full view in a word processor and in spreadsheets is appreciated.

Price and conclusions

Both the 27-inch and 32-inch versions of Samsung's Odyssey G5 curved monitor are currently available on Amazon Mexico with a 29% and 40% discount, respectively.

Although the Odyssey G5 is designed primarily as a gaming monitor, after a few days of interaction, you will find that it is more versatile and that its extreme curve fully enhances the immersive gaming or productivity experience.

If you are looking for a second monitor that complements your workstation from home, the Samsung Odyssey G5 will help you a lot and improve the experience for your eyes as well. 

It is a good monitor, although the lack of built-in speakers was strange at first, as the audio was coming from the desktop computer we tested it with and which was located on the left side.
