The Directorate of Agriculture in As-Suwayda initially estimated the governorate’s total production of pomegranate for the current season at 394 tons, 227 tons for rainfed crops and the rest for irrigated crops.
The Director of Agriculture in As-Suwayda, Engineer Ayham Hamed, said in a statement to the SANA Economic Bulletin that the estimated production is acceptable, given the weather conditions and the lack of rainfall during the current year.
Engineer Hamed pointed out that the total area planted with pomegranate in the governorate is 1,270 dunums, and the total number of trees planted in it is 54,000 trees, 37,000 of which are fruitful, distributed in various regions of the governorate.
As-Suwayda Governorate produced 334 tons of pomegranate last season, within the cultivated area of 1180 dunums.
