A stele erected in honor of Simone Veil was covered with swastikas in Perros-Guirec, in the Côtes-d'Armor, AFP learned on Wednesday August 11 from the gendarmerie.

" said the Côtes-d'Armor gendarmerie, confirming information from local media.

An investigation was entrusted to the research brigade (BR) of Lannion (Côtes-d'Armor).

Simone Veil (1917-2017), who was deported to Auschwitz, notably gave her name in 1975 to the law legalizing voluntary termination of pregnancy (abortion) and was former President of the European Parliament (1979-1982).
Also an academic, she was president of the Foundation for the Memory of the Shoah (2001-2007).
It entered the Pantheon in 2018.
