After the severe fires that have befallen southwestern Turkey in recent weeks, the volatile weather continues to hit the country, this time with floods hitting the north of the country today (Wednesday), caused by exceptional rains hitting the region.

As a result of the floods, 13 people were injured by a bridge collapse and many houses were cut off from electricity in villages in the area.

Simultaneously with warnings about the continuation of the storm, a hospital was evacuated and many roads were blocked in Sinop County.

A river in Castemuno overflowed, and a hydroelectric power station was flooded, making efforts to locate trapped people in the area.

The floods come against the backdrop of a bleak UN climate report released this week, while at the same time many fires broke out in Turkey, Greece and the United States.

Northern Turkey has previously experienced floods as a result of heavy rains in the summer.

Last year, five people perished in floods in the area.

At the same time, in southern Turkey, 208 fires have broken out since July 28, according to the Turkish Presidential Office.

Eight people perished in the fires and dozens more were hospitalized in hospitals in the southern coastal areas of the country.

Early last week, the fire approached alarmingly towards a power plant off the coast of the Aegean Sea, where thousands of tons of coal are stored.

The government said after taking control of the fire that an initial inspection revealed that no significant damage had been done to the main units in the plant.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's government is facing increasing pressure after the opposition voted for a report that showed only a small portion of the budget was used to prevent forest fires.
