The former interim president of Bolivia, Jeanine Áñez, was transferred this Wednesday to the Tórax hospital in La Paz to undergo a cardiological examination, following a recommendation from the Institute of Forensic Investigations (IDIF), a department of the Ministry Public.

Speaking from the capital of the South American country, the director of the Penitentiary Regime, Juan Carlos Limpias, explained that Áñez is "totally stable", but that last Monday, after a visit by IDIF, it was recommended that the former president "be valued in a external third-level center by a cardiologist specialist ".

After the evaluation, Limpias reported that the doctors recommended new tests and added that as of Thursday "they will coordinate to carry out the corresponding laboratories."

For his part, Luis Adolfo Guillén, lawyer for the former interim president, told CNN that his client is "quite delicate," while another defender for Áñez, Norka Cuéllar, told local media that after examining her the doctors requested "an assessment cardiology, a psychiatric examination and a blood test. He added that Áñez is already back in prison.

The former interim president of Bolivia was detained on March 13 in the cause known as "Coup d'état."

Last week a judge ordered to extend the preventive detention for six months.

She is accused of "terrorism, sedition and conspiracy" for her alleged participation in a coup against then-President Evo Morales in 2019.
