How do you look forward to the new school year after two pandemic years, what grievances and possible solutions are there?

Gabriele Triebel, education policy spokeswoman for the Greens in the state parliament, wanted to know from parents' councils and invited them to a casual discussion.

Fürstenfeldbruck - It may have been due to the appointment in the summer vacation that only two parent representatives accepted the invitation to the Marthabräu's beer garden. The exchange between Triebel, John Appoldt from the North Primary School, Holger Rabe from the Richard Higgins Primary School and Bruck's Second Mayor Christian Stangl, as school clerk of the district, high school teacher and party friend Triebels, qualified three times for the round.

Looking back on the school years marked by the pandemic, Appoldt and Rabe had similar reports: Many children at the two primary schools had forgotten social behavior and had large gaps in the material. Some were literally lost during the distance lessons because contact with the families was lost. For Triebel it is clear “that we cannot allow a third school year with a lot of failure”. Both schools are already partially equipped with air filters, further devices are expected. Tests, intervals and - in the case of incidences over 50 - mask requirement should ensure classroom teaching.

According to Triebel, the parliamentary groups are currently discussing whether quarantine measures should continue to be imposed for two weeks and whether hybrid lessons will come again if the number of infections increases. "We hope not," said the Green politician. Daily tests are better than long quarantines for entire classes.

In order to catch up on missed material, the parents' representatives wanted specific remedial classes after the summer vacation.

The concept of learning tutors sought by the Ministry of Culture - high-performing older students who help younger ones - is hardly feasible in primary schools.

Christian Stangl also doubts the effectiveness in secondary schools.

"Older pupils may be able to help with homework, but they cannot recognize major learning deficits and provide targeted support to the children concerned." In addition, the good pupils also need time to catch up on what they have missed.
