The next and final phase of the expansion of Münchner Straße in Starnberg to become the access route for the B 2 tunnel is in sight - and it will mean that Gautinger Straße will be closed for several weeks.

Starnberg

- There is good news from the construction work on Münchner Strasse in Starnberg: The ongoing work between Uhde and Perchastrasse will be completed by the end of the week.

Then four lanes will be available again, not three as is currently the case.

It will stay that way when the last phase of the expansion begins at the end of the month, which means that Gautinger Straße will be closed for nine weeks.

Sidewalk and section work is currently in progress along Münchner Strasse, which is almost complete.

After the weekend there will be a short summer break on the construction site; the next section will begin on August 31, as the state building authority in Weilheim announced.

This only affects Gautinger and Uhdestrasse, not the B 2.

Construction site / diversion

In the night from Monday to Tuesday, 30./31. August, the construction site is set up on Gautinger Strasse, which extends around 60 meters north from the confluence with the B 2. From August 31st and probably until October 29th, Gautinger Straße will be a dead end between Leut-stettener and Münchner Straße. Turning from Münchner Straße onto Gautinger Straße is just as impossible during the roadblock as turning onto Münchner Straße. Petersbrunner Straße acts as a diversion. From the direction of Gauting in the direction of Starnberg, traffic will be directed at the Gautinger / Petersbrunner / Leutstettener Strasse intersection via Petersbrunner Strasse to the B2, announced the State Building Authority. It is also not possible to drive into Gautinger Strasse from Uhdestrasse, the diversion also takes place via Petersbrunner Straße. Uhdestrasse is expected to be closed for four weeks from Wednesday, September 8, over a length of 40 meters (from Münchner Strasse) for around four weeks. The exit from the Esso petrol station onto Uhdestrasse in the direction of B 2 remains possible. One will try to keep all local driveways accessible during the closing time.

Pedestrians can sometimes use existing sidewalks, sometimes they get new ones through the construction site area.

A sidewalk remains usable on Uhdestrasse.

The possibilities to cross Münchner Straße remain unchanged for pedestrians.

Consequences for public transport

According to the district office, the routes of some buses to the north station will be adjusted during the closure in order to save time.

The regular stop of lines 950, 951 and 955 on Leutstettener Straße will be swapped with a line during the closure of Gautinger Straße, the route of which will not be affected, such as lines 949, 904 or 961. The concrete change of the stop situation is currently going on coordinated with the MVV, said district spokeswoman Barbara Beck.

What is being built?

A lot, because it's not just about the road itself. For example, under the direction of the municipal waterworks, a new drinking water pipeline is being built that will lead from Gautinger under the B 2 into Uhdestrasse - hence the closure there. The water pipe is laid using the directional drilling method in order to avoid building pits. In addition, a gas pipeline currently running along Gautinger Strasse has to be laid. In future, it will cross Gautinger Strasse and then run along Münchner Strasse for around 50 meters. The work on the latter section can be carried out without interfering with the traffic. Further work: The Gautinger Straße will get a new sidewalk for around 60 meters, a new carriageway including drainage and some parking spaces on the west side. And a traffic island in the confluence area.

At all construction sites on the inlet route, the building authority has to struggle with the divisions, i.e. sewer pipes, telephone cables, gas pipes and the like. Raphael Zuber, Head of Tunneling at the Weilheim authority, calls it a “great challenge” - not because suddenly lines are found that nobody knows, but because there are so many. The relocations are necessary, for example, because a line runs exactly where there will be traffic lights in the future. So the line has to be laid beforehand. “A traffic light foundation is relatively large,” says Zuber.

It remains to be seen whether the central island in the B 2 at today's intersection of Münchner / Gautinger / Uhdestrasse will be built this year. That depends on the progress of construction by the end of October, but should be ready by the beginning of 2022 at the latest. According to the plan, the new confluence of the Gautinger and Münchner Straße is not designed to allow cars to turn left (from the perspective of Gautinger Straße) in the direction of Munich - this is prevented by the central island, which is why the Petersbrunner Straße breakthrough was built. The final phase of the northern approach will be completed with road renovation in early 2022.
