The chairman of Heung Yee Kuk, Liu Yeqiang, said that he has always supported the government to make good use of land in the New Territories to increase housing supply and resolve the deep-seated social conflicts in Hong Kong.

Therefore, the Heung Yee Kuk requires the government to approve the joint development of land by Zutang and other organizations, while the Heung Yee Kuk retains the rights and interests of the project to continue to obtain income, which can increase the supply of private residential units.

The government can also consider expropriating the ancestral hall land for building houses, but it needs to consider a compensation plan other than cash.

Liu Yeqiang also pointed out that the Heung Yee Bureau is open to the proposal to lower the threshold for the sale of ancestral halls. The bureau will fully consult the opinions of different stakeholders before making a decision.

Support the development of New Territories North and deepen economic exchanges with Shenzhen

Liu Yeqiang pointed out that the development of the New Territories North Port Economic Belt will facilitate economic exchanges between Hong Kong and Shenzhen and seize opportunities for development in the Mainland.

For example, the Ta Kwu Ling area has more than 600 hectares of land available for development, calling on the government to seize the opportunities brought about by the country's "14th Five-Year Plan" to enhance Hong Kong's long-term competitiveness.

In addition, the Heung Yee Kuk supports the government to open the Sha Tau Kok restricted area, which will help stimulate the local economy and improve the lives of residents, and increase land supply in the long run. However, the premise is that community facilities need to be upgraded to meet the needs of future population development.

Liu Yeqiang pointed out that Heung Yee Kuk has always supported the social development of Hong Kong and therefore actively submitted policy address proposals to the Chief Executive.

He described the atmosphere of the meeting with Carrie Lam today as very positive and friendly, and emphasized that Carrie Lam responded positively to their suggestions.

When asked whether Heung Yee Kuk would support Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor's re-election, Liu Yeqiang did not respond positively. He added that he would choose candidates for the Chief Executive with similar ideas.
