The president of the closed Nicaraguan party Ciudadanos por la Libertad (CxL), Carmella María Rogers Amburn, known as Kitty Monterrey, is in Costa Rica after the cancellation of her identity card and the legal status of her match.

Rogers said this Tuesday in an interview with Teletica, Channel 7, that he found out about the cancellation of his passport through the news so he decided to put himself under protection.

Rogers said that now that he has only US citizenship, he will make arrangements with the US embassy in Costa Rica to obtain political asylum.

"Indeed, I plan to stay in Costa Rica. I want to be close to my country and I want to continue helping," Rogers told Teletica.

The Nicaraguan Ministry of the Interior reported this Sunday through a press release that it annulled the Nicaraguan passport of Rogers Amburn, president of CxL, the opposition party from which the electoral power withdrew its legal status on Friday for the elections of November.

They also canceled her identity card and her birth certificate, "which would show that Mrs. Rogers Amburn is only a US citizen," according to the Governor's report.

Rogers Amburn's Nicaraguan passport had been made, according to the same report, at the Nicaraguan Consulate in San Francisco, California.

Wendy Morales Urbina, Nicaraguan attorney general, informed the consular director general that there were "irregularities in the registration as Nicaraguan of Mrs. Rogers Amburn on June 7, 2005", for which they requested the cancellation.

Rogers said in the interview, without going into details of these alleged irregularities, that his mother is Nicaraguan and his father is American.

"I will never stop being Nicaraguan, a role is a role," he commented.

The Supreme Electoral Council (CSE) canceled the legal status of the CxL party on Friday after the president of the Constitutionalist Liberal Party, María Haydeé Ozuna, filed complaints about the dual nationality of the president of CxL, a fact that, according to her, is violent the electoral law.

The CSE also justified its resolution arguing that CxL had violated Law 1055 by committing actions against national sovereignty.

Monterrey affirmed during the interview with Teletica that the actions of his party were aimed at restoring freedom and democracy in Nicaragua.
