Oise: at Beauvais prison, cannabis was hidden in a sock

Already imprisoned since 2019 at the Beauvais (Oise) penitentiary center, one detainee was sentenced this Wednesday to six additional months in prison.

In prison, the "yoyo" is not the toy you think of, but a roundabout way of sending different packages from the window from one cell to another, using a string.

Inside, cigarettes, messages, cell phones, food… or drugs.

Last April, at the Beauvais prison (Oise), 123 g of cannabis were found in Ousmane B's cell ...

This Wednesday, already imprisoned since 2019 for acts of violence, the 33-year-old man was sentenced by the Beauvais court to six additional months of imprisonment, for possession of narcotics ... However, this defendant assures him, he doesn't touch that: “Basically, it really wasn't for me. Another detainee allegedly asked him to retrieve the package. "He wanted to go back to bed and as I get up early because of the work in detention, he spoke to me", summarizes Ousmane.

And the accused insisted: "I was awake, I was told to take this for a walk, I said ok.

On the phone with his daughter, the man assures that he has not paid attention to the contents of the sock that he retrieves from another cell.

Except that a few moments later, a search was ordered: the cannabis resin as well as two mobile phones and a charger were found by the prison administration ...

"He actively participates in trafficking within the prison"

“There it was, it was a mistake,” sighs Ousmane.

When the president of the court asks him for the "consideration" in exchange for this trip, the defendant assures that there was none.

It was, he assures us, to "render service" to a fellow prisoner, whose identity he prefers to conceal.

"You know very well that sometimes, you do not have the choice to recover a parcel, otherwise it can happen to you difficulties", recalls the lawyer of the defendant, addressing the president of the court.

An argument refuted by the prosecution: "By taking the decision to receive narcotics, he actively participates in trafficking within the prison and it is intolerable.

And despite his denials, Ousmane will not escape an additional prison sentence.
