Olaf Scholz (SPD) sees the SPD as a pioneer in climate protection in the previous coalition.

There is strong opposition from the Greens.

Osnabrück - Olaf Scholz, candidate for chancellor of the SPD, has set out ambitious plans for climate protection - and received outrage from Anton Hofreiter (Greens) for this.

"As Federal Chancellor, I will ensure the pace in the first year," said Scholz, when asked about his plans for climate protection in an interview with the Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung.

He promised an “immediate restart”, especially in matters of planning law, should he become Chancellor: “The approval of a wind power plant must not take six years, but must be achieved in six months.” The same applies to the power lines to the south.

Scholz also wants to speed up the bureaucracy: “We have to accelerate the building law, the approval and participation procedures” - a demand that the Union and the Greens have already made.

In the first year of the legislative period after the federal election, Scholz says he wants to focus on a CO2-neutral industry by 2045 - and align the expansion of "offshore wind power, onshore wind power, solar power and power grids" with it.

According to the report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change: Olaf Scholz (SPD) wants to take on a pioneering role as an industrialized country

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change presented a report with dire prognoses on August 9th.

Among other things, it emerged that the climate neutrality promoted by Scholz could come too late by 2045 to reach the 1.5 degree target.

However, there will be no tightening of the goals with Scholz: “Our goals are already extremely ambitious.

We are talking about one of the largest modernization processes in the history of our industry. ”Germany should rather take a pioneering role in the field of alternative energies.

“We have to live differently, but not worse,” he said.

For example, driving an electric car is more pleasant than driving a conventional car in many ways.

For the SPD, climate protection is an industrial project, not a re-education course.

Scholz also expects resistance from the population: "But you shouldn't avoid these conflicts if Germany is to remain a successful industrial country," said the SPD politician.

Anton Hofreiter (Greens) attacks Olaf Scholz (SPD): "No substance"

In his interview, Scholz also addressed the party around competitor Annalena Baerbock: “The Greens may have similar goals to ours, but fail when it comes to concrete implementation,” he said.

“You shy away from the local conflict.

Last year, believe it or not, 12 wind turbines were built in Baden-Württemberg, which is ruled by greenery, somehow a sign of poverty, ”said Scholz.

In contrast to the “blockers” in the CDU and CSU, the SPD had already taken the lead in the previous government.

“The Climate Protection Act bears our signature,” he said.

Scholz's announcement and the direct attack did not let the Greens sit on them for long. Anton Hofreiter, chairman of the Greens parliamentary group, accused the competitor of a hesitant attitude: The Vice Chancellor and Federal Minister of Finance was "largely responsible for the paralyzing climate protection of the grand coalition". Scholz had "slowed down again and again in the government: with the CO2 price, with the dismantling of climate-damaging subsidies, with the coal phase-out". The SPD election program also offers "no substance, there are again many goals without concrete measures," said Hofreiter of the

Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung

.

Instead of a restart, there will only be a “business as usual” in climate policy with Scholz, forecast Hofreiter.

And this “business as usual” leads “deeper and deeper into the climate crisis”.

In current surveys, Scholz and the SPD are behind - but not as clearly as they were a few weeks ago.
