The General Organization for Seed Multiplication works to secure the farmers’ needs for the seeds of all guaranteed and high-productivity agricultural crops by relying on local production with the expertise and cadres of the institution, through the rehabilitation and restoration of projects destroyed by terrorism.
Dr. Bassam Al-Sulaiman, Director General of the Corporation, indicated to the SANA Economic Bulletin that the investment plan includes the implementation of several projects for storing and preparing seeds through screening plants and storage warehouses in all governorates, pointing out that the Corporation’s production plan included this year the production and receipt of 100,000 tons of wheat seed and 10,000 tons of wheat seeds. Barley seed and various quantities for sowing chickpeas, lentils and corn crops through the technical committees in order to ensure the provision of a permanent stock at the institution of all improved and high-productivity varieties in order to implement the next agricultural plan.
He added: About 70,000 tons of wheat seed were received from the propagating fields contracted with farmers to plant them in all governorates, with an implementation rate of 75 percent. Receipt of barley seed was affected by drought conditions, which affected the decline in quality and productivity, while 1700 tons of potato seed were produced within the national project and will be sold directly to farmers for the fall season this season.
