The strikes of the union of German train drivers created uncertainty among many passengers.

Sometimes trains are canceled, but some still run.

Weilheim - Beate Miniati stood yesterday in the entrance hall of the Weilheim train station and looked at the display board.

"I want to go to Markt Indersdorf to meet a friend," Miniati explained.

Since the trip is planned for this Wednesday, the woman from Weilheim wanted to get information in good time.

Because many trains are currently not running.

Deutsche Bahn customers found out about travel options at an early stage

The union of German locomotive drivers (GDL) started strikes yesterday, which could continue into the early hours of the morning on Friday, August 13th.

Miniati is therefore considering getting a ride to Tutzing and taking the S-Bahn to Munich from there.

"But then I heard that they only drive to a limited extent."

For the first time it was publicly presented how the area south of the Weilheim train station should be built on.

It is going up a lot: An up to eight-story commercial building is planned at the bend in Bahnhofstrasse.

Antje Graul can, however, give the all-clear: “The trains leave Weilheim approximately every hour,” said the train attendant.

With this information, Miniati can plan.

"Then I'll see that I'm at the station from nine o'clock and then it will work." Miniati is not the first passenger that Graul informed.

The train attendant was posted on site to brief the passengers.

“Of course we get everything.” Most of the passengers are understanding, however.

Bavarian Regiobahn is not on strike - but still only runs to a limited extent

Graul knows from personal experience that the rail replacement service of the Bayerische Regiobahn (BRB) from Schongau to Weilheim, which is still running for a few weeks due to a construction site, is working well: "I come from Peiting myself and use the SEV regularly." the replacement traffic works well in principle.

But some passengers are constantly surprised by the situation and therefore have to change their plans.

Like the two 16-year-olds Leon Hahn and Jan Dahl from Augsburg.

Both set out on a bike tour to Schongau and actually wanted to take the train home from there. But neither of them wanted to wait for the bus for the replacement rail service. So they decide without further ado to get on their bikes and drive from Schongau to Weilheim. Visibly exhausted, Hahn and Dahl reached the station, where they boarded the BRB train back to Augsburg. "It was a lot uphill, it was pretty exhausting," said Dahl, and Hahn agreed: "We're pretty exhausted now."

Many travelers will probably still be confronted with replacement services and train cancellations during this summer vacation.

At least the two Augsburgers did not let this spoil their holiday joy and can now report on an unplanned tour through the Oberland.
