Britney Spears' father announced on Thursday that he will renounce legal guardianship of his daughter. Since 2008, Jamie Spears, along with a trust, has overseen the finances, schedule, and even the tiniest details of the 39-year-old pop star's life by court decision after she suffered a nervous breakdown in the eye of the public hurricane. "Your Honor, my father should be in jail," said the singer last June before a judge in which she denounced the labor abuses to which she had been subjected and where she threatened to sue her family for what they have done to her.

The devastating testimony of Britney Spears offered during the summer set social networks on fire and mobilized the followers of the music star, who clamored for the father to release her.

Jamie Spears' lawyer presented the affirmative response to his daughter's request to renounce guardianship in the Los Angeles Superior Court on Thursday.

However, he has pointed out that "there are no real reasons to suspend or remove him", and has argued that the decision to resign has to do with the "public battle with his daughter."

He added that he intends to work with the court and the singer's new attorney, Mathew Rosengart, to prepare for an orderly transition "to a new guardian."

“We are pleased that Mr. Spears and his attorney today admitted in a docket that he should be dismissed.

It's a vindication for Britney.

However, we are disappointed by their constant shameful and reprehensible attacks on Ms. Spears and others, ”Rosengart said in a statement.

“We look forward to continuing our vigorous investigation into the conduct of Mr. Spears and others during the past 13 years, when he reaped millions of dollars from his daughter's estate.

I hope to take the affidavit from Mr. Spears in the near future, "added the attorney, making it clear that the legal actions against Jamie Spears will be carried out as the pop star had announced.

The announcement comes days after Judge Brenda Penny rejected a petition filed by the singer's attorney, Mathew Rosengart, to move a hearing from Sept. 29 on the case to Sept. 23 to expedite her father's impeachment process. . Jamie Spears had become the celebrity's exclusive guardian in 2019, after attorney Andrew Wallet resigned from joint guardianship. That year, Spears appeared in court, behind closed doors, and said that the guardianship agreement seemed too rigorous. “Before, I thought nobody was going to believe me. I thought people would make fun of me. But now I want my life back. It has been enough, "the artist said in her statement on June 24.

Among the demands made by her father, Britney was forced to visit the psychiatrist three times a week.

On one occasion he forced her to enter a mental health center as a form of punishment for complaining in a rehearsal, and on another he forced her to give a concert against her will when she had a fever, always according to the artist's words.

“Custody didn't make any sense from the start.

I pay people to control me.

I have worked since I was 17 years old and this custody is an abuse ”, concluded the singer followed by millions of people on the planet.
