A wonderful evening passed last night (Wednesday to Thursday) over Chelsea.
The European champion defeated European League holder Villarreal 5: 6 on penalties (after 1: 1 in 120 minutes) and won the European Super Cup title.
Goalkeeper Coffee, who came on in the 119th minute and looked like a puzzling substitute just moments before the duel from the penalty spot, proved why they gave him the credit - when he provided two saves and sent his team to celebrate.
Above all of course stood out coach Thomas Tuchel, who just keeps accumulating titles.
After the championship, cup and league cup in France last year, in 2021 he already has a championship title and last night also with the Super Cup: "We talked about it with the goalkeepers. Coffee has the best save percentage with penalties, the analysts showed me the data and then I decided" .
The players also celebrated the win with tweets on their Twitter accounts.
Brakeman Thiago Silva wrote: "When a durable man is injured, he stops. Resilience does not. When a man is injured, he stays, even if he is injured. Congratulations on the victory, very proud of this team."
Thomas Tuchel: "We talked about it with the goalkeepers when we had the first knockout game against Barnsley. Kepa is has the best save percentage with penalties, the analysts showed me the data and since then I decided."
"Edouard Mendy is happy to do this for the team."
