Disagreement in the Labor Party and considerable opposition to the moves of the chairman of the Labor Party Michaeli:
The Labor Party conference decided today (Thursday) to approve the proposals submitted to it by the chairman of the Labor Party, Minister Merav Michaeli.
Secretary-General Eran Hermoni and the party leader developed a confrontation over the vote on the new proposals. Hermoni claims that some of the conference members were not given the right to vote and that the decisions were made without a proper thought process.
Most of the decisions concern the manner in which the party chairman is elected and the right of party members to elect their representatives without the approval of the conference or any other institution. Michaeli promoted the gender balance in the party institutions and the regulation of constitutional status for all party members.
"The decisions we made at the party conference today, thanks to you and thanks to you, take us all a step further," said Minister Michaeli.
"We not only strengthened democracy, we also strengthened equality between us because true democracy is true equality. Joy for the expression of trust of my group and faction members, and of course, the trust you gave me and you when you voted for."
On the other hand, the party's secretary general, Eran Hermoni, opposed the proposals and attacked his party chairman: "This is a very special event in the Labor Party that the chairman almost lost a vote at the conference."
"About half of the conference today voted against despite clear and implicit threats, despite an unprecedented mobilization of the apparatus on behalf of the chairman, and despite the fact that there were many members who were not given the opportunity to vote on various and bizarre allegations."
Hermoni added: "I and the conference members who oppose the proposals will carefully consider together with the legal team how to proceed now, but the positive side is that the Labor Party held a democratic event that does not exist in other parties and I intend to do everything so it will not be the party's last democratic event. But also discussion, deliberation, expressing different positions and respecting speakers and friends with a different opinion - something that unfortunately was not done. "
