Meteors is a collective name for everything that enters from outer space into our atmosphere as it is attracted to our gravity, and in most cases, burns completely at the time of entry.
It does not mean satellite or man-made debris - but all the boulders, small stones and even dust particles that burn as they enter the atmosphere.

What is?
If you asked what Perseids are, then these are exactly such particles, only they are named after Perseus, the hero of Greek mythology who was given an entire constellation after him, and so is this unique meter called the Perseids meter.
It occurs annually towards mid-August, and can be observed in the northern part of the Earth.

This meter includes dozens of observations in a very short time, and has become an attraction for avid astronomy enthusiasts.
In recent years the above concept has become particularly broad, and it also includes people who just like to sit at night in the desert and look at the sky above.
When?
The rain occurs in a period of between one week and three weeks, and this year the peak of the rain is supposed to occur tonight, (between Thursday and Friday).
Thousands of amateurs have already booked accommodation in the southern region and entrance tickets for amateur meetings, which usually include observations with powerful telescopes and guidance from professionals or specialized amateurs.

Why South?
The main activity is in the south of the country, for the simple reason that in order to see the Perseids' rain well, it is better to stay in a place that is as dark as possible and desolate from light sources, which interfere with viewing.
Thus, the crater area in the south becomes the center of activity, and you will find many hikers in Mitzpe Ramon, close to the Ramon Crater, and in the Yeruham area, close to the Great Crater.
