Germany can and should continue to deport serious criminals - and only them
Yes, Germany rescues local Bundeswehr personnel from the country from the Taliban - that's a good thing! Yes, over a quarter of a million Afghans have found safety in this country. But: The very small part of them who commit massive and repeated crimes that tramples our legal system has forfeited their right to protection. Germany can and should continue to deport serious criminals - and only them. Seehofer should not have given in, he would have better explained this differentiation, which is so gladly forgotten in red-green debates.
It may be that the next minister would have decided the same.
But the signaling effect of the deportation stop is bitter, it gnaws at the social acceptance of our right to asylum.
Incidentally, this is also a foreign policy declaration of bankruptcy: After 20 years of service, the West leaves an Afghanistan to which it no longer dares to send even the most serious criminals back.
