Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune announced the arrest of 22 suspects in the forest fires that occurred in several states of the country, warning against attempts to undermine national unity and exploit adversities and crises in order to divide the people of the same country.
In a speech he addressed to the Algerian people about the disaster of forest fires in several Algerian states, President Tebboune said that "those behind the attempts to undermine Algeria's national unity will be confronted by all available means," warning against "taking advantage of opportunities to create division" in the country.
Regarding the killing of a young man in the Arbaa Nath Irathan area in the state of Tizi Ouzou, following suspicions of his involvement in the forest fires that hit the region, President Tebboune stressed that revealing the truth “only depends on justice.”
The Algerian president reiterated that most of the current fires in his country are caused by "criminal hands," noting that "22 suspects are currently in the hands of justice, including 11 in the wilaya of Tizi Ouzou, 4 in Annaba, and the rest in the states of Medea, Jijel and Ain Defla."
He added that investigations are continuing to arrest all those involved in these fires, stressing that justice will take its course in this regard.
Forest fires that broke out a few days ago in parts of Algeria left 69 people dead, in addition to thousands of acres burned so far.
