The Corona Vaccine Expert Advisory Committee is expected to convene today to discuss the expansion of the booster vaccine.

The Ministry of Health published this morning (Thursday) the refined morbidity data, which shows that the number of verified corona diagnosed yesterday is 5,946, out of 131,456 tests that took place - the rate of positive tests is 4.62%.

The data from the Ministry of Health also stated that the number of active patients is 42,203, of whom 421 are hospitalized in critical condition in hospitals.

Of the severe patients, 87 are in critical condition and 65 are respiratory.

Since the outbreak of the plague in Israel, 6,593 people have died.

As of this morning, the number of people vaccinated in the first dose is 5,827,742, the number of people fully vaccinated with two vaccines is 5,406,232 and the number of people vaccinated in the third dose, the "booster dose," is 716,518.

At the same time, a committee of experts advising Corona vaccines is expected to convene today to discuss the expansion of the booster vaccine.

As far as is known, the next step that emerges is the approval of a third dose for those aged 50 and over, vaccinating chronic patients under the age of 60 and vaccinating medical staff.

To date, staff vaccination has only been approved in psychiatric and geriatric hospitals and the committee will discuss expansion to all staff.

Due to the increase in morbidity and the burden on the health system, members of the Corona cabinet reached agreements last night regarding the epidemic's containment measures.

Among other things, it was decided to extend the green label to all industries in the economy, to open malls under the outline of the purple label and to limit gatherings.

The extended green mark will take effect next Wednesday, August 18, and the purple mark - on August 16.

At the cabinet meeting yesterday, Prof. Blitzer presented data according to which, despite the strengthening of the health system that was decided upon, there is still the fear that in September we will reach the threshold of sufficiency.

Prof. Eran Segal of the Weizmann Institute was a little more optimistic, saying that if the booster vaccine helps, we may not cross the threshold.
