In 2020 the Tegernsee Week was canceled due to the pandemic, this year it will take place at the usual time.

In a different form, however.

Tegernsee

- The Tegernsee Week is practically the mother of all festivals in the valley.

In 2020 the cultural event fell victim to the pandemic, and this year too, due to Corona, jam-packed concerts, guided tours and readings are unthinkable.

But the Tegernsee Week 2021 should take place - in a different form.

Title: A city becomes a stage.

“We waited a long time,” says Birgit Halmbacher-Höplinger, who organizes the Tegernsee Week as a city employee. The town hall has long hoped that the 48th Tegernsee Week - scheduled from September 24th to October 3rd - could look similar to the 47th week in 2019. Theater, concerts, guided tours to hidden treasure chambers: the carefully put together program stands for diversity and quality year after year. Numerous individual events related to customs and culture reflect the historical legacy of more than 1250 years. The regular audience usually receives the program in June. Halmbacher-Höplinger will already plan the individual events in February.

But it is now clear.

Also this year, the Corona regulations make it impossible to hold the event in the usual form.

“But we didn't want to skip the Tegernsee Week for two years in a row,” says the organizer.

Open-air stages, exhibition in the spa gardens

The city therefore decided to offer the 48th Tegernsee Week in a different form.

It's not much more than a sign of life, but one that brings joy.

“We use public space,” explains Halmbacher-Höplinger.

There will be three stages in the city center of Tegernsee, on which musicians will play, opening and exhibition in the spa garden, a guided tour of the fishery.

The organizer is currently tapping the exact program, and it will be available by the end of the month.

“There is something for everyone,” promises Halmbacher-Höplinger.

Musically, very different genres are represented.

For example, the Veterinary Street Jazz Band and the Gruber-Schwarz duo play on the stages in the center, but classical folk music can also be heard.

This time the motet choir sings in the Egerner church - there is more space there.

And a podium for young soloists in the Tegernsee Barocksaal is also on the program, although only 58 visitors are allowed due to the distance requirement.

No chance for the "small appointments"

There is no chance to hold the "small" appointments such as the always popular guided tours through the ducal rooms or readings in the newly renovated Thoma house.

"In addition to the artists, five people are allowed into the room in the Thoma House," reports Halmbacher-Höplinger.

The announcement of the “light” program is also based on hope.

The pandemic cannot be calculated, the next wave could also destroy the current plans for the Tegernsee Week.

“If things get stupid, we have to cancel everything the day before,” the organizer knows.

That is why the plan was practically with the handbrake on.

Hope for a full program next year

The city already has the 49th Tegernsee Week firmly in view.

The dates for 2022 are: The program will be from September 22nd to October 3rd, advance ticket sales will start on July 29th.

Then hopefully again as a full version with a large audience and insights into otherwise hidden rooms.

Halmbacher-Höplinger is looking forward to it: "Everyone longs for it."
