The majority of forest fires ravaging northern Algeria seemed on the way to being brought under control on Friday August 13, especially in the most affected region of Tizi Ouzou, in Kabylia, according to the authorities.

After announcing "
the extinction this morning of all forest fires started in Tizi Ouzou
", Civil Protection however reported "
five starts of fire
" in this wilaya (prefecture). Firefighters and volunteers continue to fight 35 fires in 11 other prefectures, including Jijel, Bejaïa and Boumerdès, according to the latest Civil Protection report.
In total, 76 fires were extinguished - out of a hundred recorded Thursday - across 15 prefectures of the country.
Two French firefighters intervened Thursday in Kabylia and three other water bombers were expected Friday from Spain and Switzerland according to President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
At least 71 people perished in these fires - of "

origin
according to the authorities - intensified by the extreme heat.
On the second day of the national mourning decreed to honor the victims, a prayer for the absent deceased will be performed just after the great weekly Muslim Friday prayer in the mosques of Algeria.
