The Special Envoy of the Russian President to Afghanistan, Director of the Second Asian Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Zamir Kabulov, considered that the Taliban's control of Kandahar does not mean their ability to control the Afghan capital.
Today, Kabulov told Sputnik agency, "The Taliban's seizure of Kandahar does not mean that they are ready to seize the Afghan capital," noting that "peace talks in Afghanistan will take place in one way or another because the Taliban is not capable and has not taken Kabul yet."
The Taliban announced earlier today that it had captured Kandahar, the second largest city in Afghanistan, after it had recently taken control of large areas of the country, including important cities and border crossings, in conjunction with the US administration's announcement of the withdrawal of its soldiers from this country after an occupation that lasted nearly two decades. Time drained Afghanistan completely and plunged it into a vortex of chaos and violence.
