New parking fees at Walchensee: there are no excursionists - landlords suffer from dwindling guests

There has been criticism of the new parking fees that have been charged for a few weeks on the southern shore of Lake Walchensee. A few restaurateurs in Jachenau are now feeling this.

There has been criticism of the new parking fees that have been charged for a few weeks on the southern shore of Lake Walchensee.

A few restaurateurs in Jachenau are now feeling this.

Jachenau

- The innkeepers receive a lot of feedback from guests who are not willing to shell out a total of ten euros for the bathing excursion, sometimes feel dislodged - and not infrequently fail to appear completely as a result.

The hosts would at least wish that there were tiered parking fees.

Parking fees at Walchensee: "Receive ten to 20 complaints from guests a day"

"The mood at Walchensee is not exactly positive - that is a fact," says the host of the "Waldschänke" in Niedernach, Georg Baumgartner.

"We get ten to 20 complaints a day from guests who talk about the parking fees on a massive scale," he reports.

His restaurant is still well frequented when the weather is “great”.

But especially “in medium weather” he usually has a lot of guests who only come to have coffee.

For them there is now no longer any relation that they first have to pay ten euros for tolls and parking alone.

New parking fees at Walchensee: Gasthof complains "30 percent decrease"

But even companies that are not directly on the lake notice the minus.

"As soon as the weather is a bit worse and you don't go swimming, but rather walk, we have a decrease of 30 percent compared to before," says Petra Schwaab from Gasthof Jachenau.

According to the landlady, the guests who only want to stop at the lake and on the return journey break away.

She makes it clear: “We are not against parking fees.

For the whole day, five euros are okay. "

Walchensee: Fewer guests in the evening - landlord suggests “short-term parking”

Richard Jakob from “Café 7 1/3” would also find a “short-term parking scheme” to be sensible - be it that the first two hours of parking at the lake would be free or would cost one or two euros. But he also sees the unfortunate external presentation of the Walchensee region as a problem. There have just been some "statements on the subject of day tourism from the direction of Kochel that have left the objective level and have not been well received by the people".

This is probably just one of several factors that are leading to a decline in the number of guests this year, says Jakob.

"The parking fees play a role, the epidemic situation and also the changeable weather." But the fact is: The "Café 7 1/3" has significantly fewer guests this year who want to eat or drink something on the way home from the lake.

"The evening business on our terrace practically no longer takes place."

It is also clearly recognizable that there are fewer day-trippers who take a lap around the entire Walchensee.

From Jakob's point of view, it would be desirable for there to be a uniform, cross-community parking regulation on Lake Walchensee, so that, for example, motorists with a day ticket could park in the village of Walchensee (municipality of Kochel) as well as on the south bank (Jachenau) without paying twice.

New parking machines at Walchensee: Mayor wants to monitor the situation

The Mayor of Jachenau, Klaus Rauchberger, shows understanding for the needs of the catering industry, but is not prepared to turn the parking fees upside down just a few weeks after the machines have been set up.

“We always said we'd watch it for a season, then we'll see if we had to readjust.” In his opinion, the fact that there is less going on at Walchensee this year is primarily due to the weather.

Even before the parking machines were installed, there was already less traffic.

Rauchberger refers to the high costs of the community: 40,000 euros alone for mobile toilets, along with bank maintenance, rubbish disposal and the lease for the parking spaces to the state forests.

The introduction of parking fees is also "not an invention of the Jachenau", but should be seen in the context of the Walchensee concept supported by the district and the state government.

There is nowhere else that drivers can drive right to the shore of a lake for free.

The municipality has not yet received any complaints from motorists - but all the more from motorhome owners, who now have to pay ten euros each for a toll and a parking fee.

"The restriction to three parking spaces on the south bank is not accepted," says Rauchberger.

"Dozens of bitter, sometimes insulting e-mails were received on the subject every day".
