The Joe Biden government sanctioned two Cuban Interior Ministry officials and a military unit on Friday in response to the crackdown on protests on the island.
This is the administration's third tranche of sanctions after widespread protests that erupted in mid-July.
The sanctions on Friday were against Romarico Vidal Sotomayor García (Sotomayor) and Pedro Orlando Martínez Fernández (Martínez) of the Ministry of the Interior of Cuba (MININT).
In addition, sanctions were imposed against the Prevention Troops of the Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Cuba.

"The Treasury Department will continue to target those who allow the Cuban government to perpetuate human rights abuses against peaceful protesters," said Andrea Gacki, director of the Office of Foreign Assets Control, in a statement.
"Today's action highlights other perpetrators responsible for suppressing the Cuban people's calls for freedom and respect for human rights," the statement said.
