Region - In view of the enormous burdens caused by the corona pandemic, the Diocesan Caritas Association expects a sharply increasing need for help and support from children, adolescents and families.
“Politics has completely neglected the younger generation.
That can't happen anymore!
We can already feel in almost all facilities that children and adolescents are the victims of the pandemic.
The consequences will only really become apparent when the children and young people regularly visit day-care centers and schools again after the holidays ”, warns Caritas director Gabriele Stark-Angermeier and appeals to those responsible that schools and daycare centers are again accessible to everyone after the long holidays close.
Experience has shown that these institutions are the first to notice abnormalities and then recommend parents to seek therapeutic help or to contact an educational counseling center.
Educational gaps and development delays
The negative effects are particularly dramatic for disadvantaged families who have few resources. “Due to educational gaps, development deficits, a lack of prospects and fears for the future, children and young people are increasingly being left behind. Therefore, the need for help will inevitably continue to rise and make additional investments in child and youth welfare necessary, ”demands Stark-Angermeier. Public youth welfare is responsible for providing needs-based and sufficient help. For this, however, the municipalities also needed solid financial resources. “We firmly believe that the long-term effects will increase. In addition, there are family burdens due to bankruptcies and loss of work with parents, which will have an additional negative impact on the children. It is difficult for everyone to bear the fact that there is still no end to the pandemic in sight and that we don't really know how things will continue in autumn. ”Young people and families absolutely need prospects and security.
Educational gap is getting bigger and bigger
The Diocesan Caritas Association very much welcomes the fact that the State Ministry for Family, Labor and Social Affairs has approved 120 additional posts in the educational counseling centers.
“In view of the many growing problems in Munich and Upper Bavaria, however, a drop in the ocean.
In addition, we still have to negotiate at the municipal level how the financing will be distributed and whether and to what extent own funds should be used, ”explains Board Member Stark-Angermeier.
“The sore point of the Corona era was and is education policy.
The virus has opened the educational gap even further.
I sincerely hope that politicians have learned this lesson and are doing everything they can to ensure that schools stay open after the summer break.
