VaxImpact, a new tool to see how vaccination slows the epidemic

2021-08-13T14:45:04.126Z

Based on data from the DREES, it makes it possible to visualize the evolution of hospitalizations, contaminations and deaths according to the vaccination status of individuals.

After Vaccine Tracker, focused on the evolution of the vaccination campaign, Quickly my dose !, which helps citizens find a niche to be vaccinated, and Covirisque, which calculated the “

risks

” of falling ill with Covid-19, the team behind the CovidTracker site unveiled a new tool this Thursday: called VaxImpact, the latter offers to see "

the impact of vaccination on the epidemic

".

VaxImpact is based on data from the Department of Research, Studies, Evaluation and Statistics (DREES), attached to the Ministry of Solidarity and Health. These are updated every Friday, and follow the way in which hospitalizations, contaminations and deaths evolve between vaccinated people and people who have not received any injection. In its latest update, dated Friday, the Drees notes that there are "

significantly fewer positive tests and hospital admissions for those fully vaccinated than for the unvaccinated in all regions of France

”.

VaxImpact shows, in a concrete and easy to understand way, the way in which these different statistics evolve according to the vaccination status of individuals. For example, a curve reports that as of August 1, 2,311 symptomatic cases were reported per 10 million unvaccinated inhabitants, compared to just over 1,000 per 10 million partially vaccinated inhabitants, and nearly ten times less - 247 cases. per 10 million inhabitants vaccinated - among people who have completed their vaccination schedule.

Likewise, the tool highlights much lower hospitalizations and deaths among vaccinated people, compared to those who received no dose.

83 hospital admissions were recorded on August 1 for 10 million unvaccinated individuals, against 20 and 14 respectively for ten million partially vaccinated and fully vaccinated individuals.

In total, over fifty days, an unvaccinated group will have 250 hospitalizations, against five times less for a fully vaccinated group.

"

An unvaccinated person has a fourfold risk of dying compared to a vaccinated person

On Twitter, the founder of Covid Tracker, Guillaume Rozier, clarified that this new tool was "

based on the work of Sacha Guilhaumou

", who presents himself as a pharmacy student in Paris. VaxImpact "

will be updated with each publication of data by the Drees

", added the one who was decorated by Emmanuel Macron in July.

The latest data from the institution confirms a strong difference in fate depending on the vaccination status of individuals: "

For a comparable population size, the rate of positive RT-PCR tests is nearly 8 times lower for people who are fully vaccinated

", notes she does. The same goes for critical care admissions: "

for a comparable population size, there are 9 times more entries [...] among the non-vaccinated than among the fully vaccinated

", notes the Drees.
