The number of corona cases in Germany has been increasing since July.

But who is infected with Corona?

The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) has published figures and data in its weekly report.

Berlin - It's a tricky situation. The corona incidence in Germany * has been increasing every day - for weeks. The number of corona cases is increasing. The proportion of the delta variant (B.1.617.2) among infections is now 98 percent, according to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) in its weekly report (as of August 12). The data for the clearly contagious mutant therefore relate to representative random tests.

"The health authorities can no longer trace all chains of infection," said the RKI.

These are sentences that sound familiar to many and that nobody really wants or wanted to hear anymore.

In one age group, the Berlin institute recorded noticeably high numbers of infections.

The RKI visualizes the age group by reporting weeks in a so-called heat map.

The graph shows, for example, the 7-day incidence of people over 90 or people aged 35 to 39.

Orange (incidence from 50 to 100) currently stand out clearly in two fields.

RKI graphic: Who is infected with Corona?

  • Most corona infections are found in people under the age of 50.

  • The highest incidence is in the age group of 20 to 24 year olds - the value is just under 60 (59.33).

  • In the 15 to 19 age group, the incidence is 58.54

According to the RKI report, the incidence had fallen in all age groups by May 2021.

Since the 27th calendar week (July 5th to 11th) there has been “another increase in the incidence, especially in the age groups of 10 to 34 year olds, and increasingly also in the other age groups up to 49 years of age”.

According to the RKI heat map, there has been an increase in corona cases in the age group of 10 and 14 year olds - the mostly unvaccinated children - for a few weeks now.

Unfortunately, the RKI does not show an age group up to twelve years.

Because: Compared to the vaccinated groups in the 60-year-olds, the 7-day incidence is still in the single digits. This age group was particularly hard hit in the wave over the turn of the year. While “a higher incidence in children and adolescents was observed in the spring

wave of 2021.
