The US government has again warned of an "acute terrorist threat environment" as the twentieth anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks approaches in the United States.
And the French press agency quoted the US Department of Homeland Security as saying in a memo that “prior to the anniversary of the September 11 attacks, al-Qaeda recently published the first English-language version in four years of its propaganda magazine, “Inspire,” which indicates that foreign terrorist organizations continue their efforts to indoctrinate ideological of individuals stationed in the United States who may be vulnerable to violent extremist influences.”
The US Department of Homeland Security, created after the 9/11 attacks, regularly publishes warnings of this kind.
And a memorandum issued last May warned of the danger of “extremists” exploiting the lifting of health restrictions thanks to progress in combating the Covid-19 epidemic to launch violent attacks, only to warn that “these extremists could try to exploit the emergence of Covid mutants with the possibility of a return to public health restrictions across the United States.” As a motive to launch attacks, especially since psychological stress factors linked to the epidemic may contribute to an increase in violence this year.”
And the Department of Homeland Security previously issued a memorandum in the context of combating terrorism last January after the supporters of former President Donald Trump attacked the Capitol, in which it focused for the first time on the internal threats facing the United States from right-wing and racist extremists.
