The mayor of Alghero, Mario Conoci, and the prefect of Sassari, Maria Luisa D'Alessandro, welcomed him at the foot of the representative office.

The president of the city council, Raffaele Salvatore, the municipal council, the rector of the University of Sassari, Gavino Mariotti, and l extraordinary administrator of the Province of Sassari, Pietro Fois.

Mattarella was greeted by the affectionate applause of numerous people from Alghero and tourists, who crowded around Piazza Porta Terra, which leads to the historic center of Alghero.

Tonight the head of state could visit with his family the naturalistic oasis of the Prigionette and the institutional headquarters of the Porto Conte regional natural park, at Casa Gioiosa, while tomorrow Mattarella could go back to Alghero to attend Mass.
