The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in Damascus held a reception this evening on the occasion of the Independence Day, at the home of the Pakistani ambassador in Yafour in Damascus countryside.

In his speech, Pakistan's Ambassador in Damascus Saeed Muhammad Khan referred to the struggle of the people of his country to obtain independence after a long struggle against British domination and the development it has achieved since then in various fields of education, industry, science and technology.

The Pakistani ambassador congratulated Syria and its people on President Bashar al-Assad's victory in the presidential elections, expressing his confidence that Syria would recover and regain its previous position in the world.

Muhammad Khan praised the excellent bilateral brotherly relations between his country and Syria, indicating that the deep relationship between the two countries is rooted and enjoys the highest levels of appreciation by the leaderships of the two countries.

For his part, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Bashar Al-Jaafari affirmed the depth of the historical friendship between the two countries and their rooting to serve the interests of their peoples, pointing to Pakistan’s supportive stance for Arab issues in general and Syria in particular, as it had a principled stance during the crisis in Syria while not succumbing to pressure and refusing to interfere in affairs The interior of Syria and attempts to violate its sovereignty.

Al-Jaafari expressed Syria's appreciation for the humanitarian support provided by Pakistan to those affected by the fires that broke out in Lattakia Governorate last year, in addition to the support it provided to Syria in facing the Corona pandemic.

The reception was attended by the Ministers of Economy, Foreign Trade, Education, Oil, Mineral Resources and Industry, Dr. Mohsen Bilal, a member of the central leadership of the Arab Socialist Ba'ath Party, the Grand Mufti of the Republic, Dr. Badr El-Din Hassoun, and a number of members of the People's Assembly, ambassadors and representatives of diplomatic missions working in Damascus.
