Damascus-SANA
The Union of Journalists confirmed that journalists in Syria performed their national and professional duty, as they were defenders of the unity of the Syrian territory alongside the Syrian Arab Army.
In a statement on the occasion of the Syrian Press Day, the Federation pointed out that the national media was a mirror that reflected the concerns of the citizen who was facing unjust and illegal coercive measures that affected his livelihood and aimed at undermining his steadfastness.
The Federation clarified that the Press Day coincides with the start of the electoral process for its seventh session, stressing the renewal of the covenant that journalists will remain loyal to their profession, their country and to the leader, President Bashar al-Assad.
In a greeting card sent by the People’s Assembly to the Syrian Journalists Union, by the way, SANA obtained a copy of it. People’s Assembly Speaker Hammouda Sabbagh stressed that national media institutions and Syrian journalists are working hard to raise the level of local journalism and continue to pay attention to issues of public affairs and citizens’ concerns.
Sabbagh pointed out that the national media institutions had an honorable role in participating in the defense of Syria and covering the battles of the Syrian Arab Army and presented many martyrs.
The fifteenth of August of each year was chosen as a holiday for the Syrian press in 2006 when President Bashar al-Assad visited the fourth general conference of the Journalists' Union, coinciding with the victory of the resistance in southern Lebanon. This visit left a positive impression on journalists and confirmed the status of their profession.
