After the disaster in autumn 2020, SV Wangen fears that wild boars will devastate the football field again this year.

A stable fence is still missing.

It costs around 15,000 euros.

However, the necessary grant from the city is still a long way off.

Wangen - Winfried Wobbe would never have thought that he would learn so much about wild boars as the chairman of a sports club. "The animals are smart," says the head of SV Wangen. For example, when it comes to overcoming an electric fence. “You are pushing a teenage boar into the fence to make it fall over. That really squeaks, and the others walk over it, ”says Wobbe. Details that he learned from hunters in the village. Why did he want to know so exactly? At the end of September 2020, a gang had dug up the entire soccer field in Wangen. The result: pieces of lawn torn out over several square meters, puddles of water up to 30 centimeters deep and heaps of earth distributed everywhere (we reported).

It has been more than ten months since the devastating visit. And those responsible at SVW are slowly getting nervous: Autumn is just around the corner, and food for the wild boars in the forest will then become scarcer. The footballers don't feel like moving to Starnberg again for the games. And above all, she and the other club members do not want to step back into the grass for weeks on mounds of earth.

The solution would be a so-called wire mesh fence made of steel (the electric one, as indicated, is only a temporary solution) for 15,000 euros. According to Wobbe, SV Wangen had already applied for a grant of 10,000 euros from the city last year. The money had not been approved for 2021. Now the club boss has submitted the application again - and "as part of the decision on the sports grants for the year 2022" is to be discussed by the main and finance committee of the city council, writes town hall spokeswoman Lena Choi when asked by the Starnberger Merkur. And when? “It is not yet clear when the matter will be discussed; in any case this year. "

The next meeting of the main committee is on September 20th. Because it concerns “sports grants for the year 2022”, it is to be expected that the approved grant (if there is one) will then be made subject to budgetary reservation. That means: The local politicians could withdraw the money at the budget consultations, the SVW will probably not be able to rely one hundred percent on receiving the 10,000 euros until next year.

Michael Reiz, the soccer player's coach, would have preferred to send out the order for the fence to a company in Germering long ago. “The prices are rising all the time. And craft companies that do that are not easy to find, ”he says. In addition, the construction industry is working to full capacity. "It depends on when they could even start." The SVW coach fears that the fence will probably only be in place next year. He wants to order 120 meters, especially for the area towards the forest, from which the wild boars are most likely to come. “And it has to be 1.40 meters high. Otherwise they'll jump over it, ”says Reiz. He too learned a lot about animals.

From Reiz 'and Wobbe's point of view, SV Wangen is a Starnberg club that rarely wants money from the city. The members also removed the wild boar tracks on their own, they emphasize. “I was in the back with the boys almost every day and kicked tufts of grass. Then we drove over it with the roller, watered and fertilized the place. The whole thing dragged on for four weeks, ”says Reiz, who is wondering why there has been no unbureaucratic, faster solution so far. Especially since SVW is only a tenant: the land on which the soccer field is located belongs to the city.
