In the run-up to the evacuation of US forces by the end of the month, President Biden has ordered more than 5,000 troops to be sent to Afghanistan.

The Taliban terrorist organization launched an attack on Kabul this morning (Sunday), with the aim of capturing it from the local government.

This was reported by the Afghan Interior Ministry.

The Taliban's attack comes after the United States began evacuating its embassy in Afghanistan today, after the terrorist organization captured the capital of Vurdak province, Maidan Shahar, near the capital, where the embassy is located.

In addition, the Taliban also managed to occupy Jalalabad this morning, which is about 150 kilometers from Kabul and about 140 kilometers from the Pakistani city of Peshawar.

A U.S. defense source told Reuters last week that U.S. intelligence estimates Kabul could hold at least three months until it is captured by the Taliban.

Towards the end of the evacuation of the embassy staff, US President Joe Biden ordered the deployment of 5,000 more troops to the country, with the aim of securing the Kabul airport, the embassy and the residents who have helped the Americans since entering Afghanistan, in anticipation of the terrorist organization Of the Americans.

Military sources learned from anonymous sources that officials at the embassy had destroyed sensitive documents leading to the possibility that the Taliban would take over the place until US forces left the country by the end of the month.

An Afghan source told Reuters that Jalalabad had been occupied without a fight, which led to the governor surrendering to the terrorist organization.

"This surrender was the only option to save the lives of many people," he said.

A security source in the city told the agency that the Taliban had authorized government officials and security forces to leave Jalalabad.

The takeover of Jalalabad comes after the Taliban also managed to occupy two of the major cities in Afghanistan, Kandahar in the south of the country and Harat in the west on Tuesday.

The campaign led to the terrorist organization now controlling more than two-thirds of the country, and even to neighboring Pakistan closing the Turkham border crossing with Afghanistan after the Taliban took control of the Afghan side of the border.
