The shift towards alternative energy in the city of Daraa and its use in the field of lighting main roads and commercial markets secured significant savings in reliance on traditional energy and allowed the provision of lighting throughout the evening period.
In 2019, Daraa City Council began switching to solar energy in lighting, either from its own budget or in cooperation with the United Nations Development Program, where dozens of lighting units were installed in the city, which allowed savings in the field of traditional energy.
Engineer Muhammad Jaara, supervisor of alternative energy projects, indicated that lighting devices were installed in all public squares, city entrances, roundabouts, commercial markets, Daraa National Hospital Road, in addition to the markets of Daraa Al-Balad area and its main streets, pointing out that this step allowed the city council to provide lighting for many areas in the city. Without resorting to traditional energy and developing a future plan to remove all lighting devices that depend on traditional sources.
Jaara pointed out that streets were served with alternative energy, in which the electricity structure was completely destroyed, while work is currently underway on a project to light the road linking between Bosra Square, near the telecom company, towards the intersection of the government complex.
Jaara believed that the shift towards alternative energy in street lighting in cities in general constitutes an important entry point to activate the diversified commercial movement and reduces the consumption of electrical energy, which will later allow these savings to be transferred to household electricity.
It is noteworthy that Daraa Governorate is moving at an accelerated pace towards shifting to the production of electricity from alternative sources, as most agricultural projects are working on solar energy, as well as for a number of factories.
