The graduation ceremony is an annual event in various universities and colleges. Every university will rush to dress up the campus and create the best memories for the graduates.

Mo Shaowen, who has been an assistant gardening manager in the Property Management Office of CUHK for 25 years, was awarded the Long Service Award this year.

He believes that the graduation ceremony of the Chinese University is very proud of the students. It is all because of the teamwork of colleagues in the gardening team to create the most spectacular landscape. Since 1998, the "Flower God" of CUHK led his colleagues to fill the graduation ceremony of Million Avenue every year. The blooming flowers give a message to graduates with a bright future.

In 1998, the flower arrangement began to be appreciated by the school

Mok Shaowen joined the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1995. He thanked the university for its freedom, parents’ support and the help of colleagues. When he arranged the graduation ceremony venue in 1998, he had the idea to change the arrangement of flowers in different colors from the original monotonous design. In exquisite patterns, the most dazzling graduation ceremony stand is built by using the several stairs of Million Avenue.

CUHK also gave him the freedom to design. He will be responsible for the graduation ceremonies every year. From August to September every year, he starts to choose flowers and designs, considering the color matching between various flowers, and also choose the season. The blooming flowers became a beautiful scenery at the graduation ceremony of CUHK.

Parents of the students who are going to Bilili on Million Avenue do not want to change in wind and rain

The team’s dedication can also be felt by the CUHK students. Mo Shaowen recalled that it had rained on graduation ceremonies for several years. Because of the open air of the venue, all the participants had been "drizzled" for a while, but the students expressed their desire to stick to the Avenue of Millions. The salute is of great significance to the graduates, and it has long been a tradition to salute and take pictures in a background full of flowers. Therefore, it is not hoped that the arrangement will be moved indoors on rainy days. Even if the salute is in the rain, the graduates and their parents have no complaints. , Mo Shaowen thanked them for their tolerance and understanding.

For a few years when the graduation ceremony rained, the students expressed their desire to insist on saluting on Million Avenue, thinking that the place is of great significance to graduates, and the gardening team also tried their best to protect the flowers.

"Mangosteen" cleans up fallen trees within one day of Hong Kong and reopens roads

The graduation ceremony is very proud. Mo Shaowen and other gardening team workers are indispensable for their contributions. They have been running around on campus in the past to create the most comfortable outdoor environment for CUHK students. Mo Shaowen also shared with colleagues in the gardening team. Colleagues from the class worked together. The deepest memory is that the super typhoon "Mangkhut" struck Hong Kong in 2018. He described campus suspensions as very rare and trees blocking the main road. At that time, his colleagues in other front-line departments ruled out when public transportation did not return to normal. It is difficult to rush back to the campus to deal with the fallen tree, and build a passageway in one day, so that the university can operate as usual the next day.

In the past 25 years, the daily work is responsible for renewing and caring for the green plants in the university, supporting the annual Chinese medicine exhibition of the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and cultivating some imported varieties, such as the Japanese talix on the shore of the Lake, and the Kawazu Sakura that settled in CUHK from Japan. A popular attraction at CUHK.
