Chef Shalom Kadosh was released today (Sunday) from Hadas Ein Kerem Hospital in Jerusalem, about five months after he was attacked in a robbery in the city, and was severely wounded in the head.

Kadosh, who was hospitalized in the intensive care unit, was unconscious for a month, and in recent months was transferred to a regular neurosurgery department, where he underwent various treatments until his condition improved.

He will continue in day rehabilitation at Hadassah Hospital on Mount Scopus.

The incident occurred in March, in which Kadosh was attacked at a gas station on Bethlehem Road in the capital - a few hours before his daughter's wedding.

The chef spotted a robber breaking into his car and trying to steal items from her, tried to confront him, was slammed hard to the ground and hit in the head.

The suspect in the act then fled.

In April, the Jerusalem District Attorney's Office filed an indictment against city resident Ali Adkidak for injuring Kadosh.

The indictment charged him with robbery and grievous bodily harm, after the incident ended in the 74-year-old chef being seriously injured, following which he was anesthetized and respirated for a period.

According to the prosecution, Adkidak noticed banknotes inside Kadosh's vehicle through a window that was open.

For a while he moved around the car and waited for an opportunity where he could steal the money.

At one point the defendant leaned toward the vehicle, put his right hand and head through the window, took the money that was in the vehicle and shoved it into his pocket.

Immediately afterwards, Kadosh noticed Adkidak and began to chase after him.

The defendant, according to the indictment, tried to escape from him but it managed to grab his right hand.

To escape with the money, Adkidak turned and forcibly pushed Kadosh to the ground to free himself from his grasp.

The struggle between the two ended in a particularly difficult outcome.

Kadosh fell, his head hit hard on the road, and he suffered skull fractures and neck fractures.

Kadosh, one of the forefathers of modern Israeli cuisine, is the culinary guide of dozens of chefs and the man who fed heads of state and senior chefs from around the world.

He immigrated to Israel from Morocco at the age of 14 and grew up in Afula.

His long cooking career began working as a cook on passenger ships departing from Haifa, moved to Jerusalem in 1974, and has planted roots in the city to this day.

Among other things, he worked at the Hilton Hotel, moved from there to the Gan-Or Hotel (which over the years became Leonardo Plaza) and became the hotel chef, a position he has proudly held for almost a decade.

During those years, Kadosh established his name in Israel and around the world, editing the "Encyclopedia of Cooking and Baking."

About three years ago, he received the decoration of the city of Jerusalem.
