For the first time since 2013: 3 Israeli universities among the top 100 in the world
The Hebrew University of Jerusalem reached the 90th place in the Shanghai ranking for 2021, which is considered the most important ranking in the international academic world.
The Weizmann Institute climbed one place to 92nd place, and the Technion in Haifa was ranked 94th.

For the first time since 2013, three Israeli academic institutions were ranked first in the Shanghai ranking of academic institutions for 2021. The Hebrew University was ranked 90th, considered the most important ranking in the international academic world, thus reaching its best ranking in the last five years, since 2016. Hebrew climbed back To the 100 most respected institutions in the world, after last year being ranked 150-101. The Weizmann Institute, which was ranked 93rd last year, climbed one place to 92 and the Technion in Haifa also climbed to the first Maya and was ranked 94th.
Prof. Asher Cohen, President of the Hebrew University, said that "the rising trend in the Shanghai ranking is a testament to the hard work and uncompromising pursuit of academic excellence, of all members of the academic community in Israel and in particular the Hebrew University. The Shanghai Index is compiled by the Chinese University of Jiutong and is considered one of the world's most reliable academic rankings published regularly every year.
The ranking is based on a number of metrics, such as the number of faculty and alumni who have won Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals, the number of times a university researcher has appeared in leading scientific journals such as Science and Nature, and rankings.
The Chinese study includes more than 2,000 universities, of which the top 1,000 are selected.
