The Hebrew University reached the 90th place, in the important and high-quality index in the academic world • The Weizmann Institute climbed one place in the ranking and the Technion immediately after it in the 94th place • No change in the top of the table

The Israeli Academy is an impressive achievement: For the

first time, since 2013, three Israeli academic institutions have reached the first Maya of the Shanghai ranking for 2021, which is considered the most thoughtful and high-quality in the academic world.

The Hebrew University is the leading Israeli institution in the rankings and after being ranked outside the top 100 last year, this year it reached the 90th place.

Meanwhile, the Weizmann Institute of Science climbed one place in the ranking and is now in 92nd place and the Technion immediately behind it, in 94th place.

"The rising trend in the Shanghai ranking is evidence of hard work and an uncompromising pursuit of academic excellence, of all members of the academic community in Israel and in particular at the Hebrew University," said Professor Asher Cohen, President of the Hebrew University.

"I am very happy that three academic institutions are in the first Maya. This is a testament to the truth of research and science in Israel. We are proud this year that the Hebrew University is recognized as one of the 100 leading universities in the world, and the leading university in Israel."

The ranking includes other Israeli universities.

Tel Aviv University was ranked 151-200, as well as Bar Ilan and Ben Gurion in the fifth Maya.

The University of Haifa is ranked in the sixth Maya in the overall ranking.

Also, at the top of the table no change has been seen for four years, with Harvard University in first place, Stanford in second, Cambridge in third, MIT in fourth, and fifth place - Berkeley University.

The ranking is based on a number of metrics, such as the number of faculty and alumni who have won Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals, the number of times a university researcher has appeared in leading scientific journals such as Science and Nature, and rankings.
