INTERVIEW - The Minister of Higher Education salutes the performance of French universities in the latest Shanghai ranking, despite the hegemony of the Anglo-Saxon countries.

- What conclusions do you draw from this new classification?

Frédérique VIDAL. -

Once again this year, French universities are shining around the world. The policy of university regrouping carried out for four years consolidates the place of the faculties and schools now regrouped under the same signature: this is the case of Paris-Saclay, of the University of Paris or of Sorbonne University. Since the 2018 ordinance, in fact, establishments have been able to group together as they wish, without having to embark on complicated merger processes. From now on, the researchers and teacher-researchers in the laboratories of these universities have a common signature. This is what allows them to appear in the ranking. For the second year in a row, France therefore retains its third place in the world, behind the United States and the United Kingdom.

Can this regrouping, propelling certain establishments, lead to a downgrading of unmerged universities?
