Stockholm - There is a festive mood in the Swedish royal family.

Crown Princess Victoria celebrated her 44th birthday in July - a month later there is another reason to celebrate.

Little Prince Julian of Sweden, son of Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sophia, was baptized on Saturday August 14th.

The Swedish palace announced the procedure before the baptism.

Accordingly, the guests arrived at the castle church of Drottningholm at around 11 a.m.

In addition to the royal couple Silvia and Carl Gustaf, Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel also appeared with their two children, Prince Oscar and Princess Alexander.

Princess Madeleine didn't miss it either and traveled with her family to the royal baptism in Sweden.

And of course, Prince Julian's siblings, Alexander and Gabriel, were present at the baptism in addition to proud parents Carl Philip and Sofia.

Prince Carl Philip and his wife Sofia decided on five godparents:

While the dress code was a dress or costume for the female guests and a suit or uniform for the male guests, Julian wore the royal christening gown.

This was worn for the first time in 1906.

According to the Swedish palace, the service should begin at 12 noon.

The youngest grandson of King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia was baptized with water from the holy spring on Öland under the direction of the court preacher and bishop Johan Dalman and court title Michael Bjerkhagen.

At the end of the ceremony, Carl Gustaf awarded his grandson Sweden's highest order of merit, the Order of Seraphine.

Finally, 21 gun salutes were fired in honor of the person to be baptized.

Baptism of Prince Julian of Sweden breaks with tradition

But not everything went as usual at Julian's baptism.

Because a tradition was broken: the baptismal service was not broadcast live on television.

This had been a tradition since Crown Princess Victoria's christening in 1977.

The Swedish broadcaster “SVT” is supposed to broadcast a summary for this.

Some journalists were still allowed to be on site.

Sweden's royal baptism: limited number of guests and cancellation of the official reception

Originally, the royal couple had invited to a private reception in the castle.

However, this project was canceled on Friday, the day before the baptism.

“Due to the ongoing pandemic, we were forced to limit the number of invited guests in Drottningholm Church at this baptism.

Therefore, the reception and lunch will not take place afterwards.

After the baptism there will be a private lunch with the immediate family and the godparents ”, palace employee Ulrika Näsholm told the Swedish newspaper
