Brigadier General (Res.) Yossi Kuperwasser, a senior researcher at the Jerusalem Center for Public and State Affairs, said that "the speed of the collapse of the Afghan government and the army set up by the Americans, with its 300,000 troops and advanced equipment, in front of Taliban forces - is cause for concern.

"It shows how lacking in cultural and political roots was the American attempt to instill in Afghanistan a liberal worldview."

Cooperwasser added that "the withdrawal will be enacted as another expression of American weakness, stemming from the unwillingness to pay the price in human lives and the money involved in the ongoing struggle against radical Islam, and it may therefore strengthen extremist Islamic elements such as Iran, al-Qaeda and ISIS."
