The country could have been stabilized with more military power and more toughness in the face of the ever-corrupt regimes in Kabul. Not according to the standards of western democracies, probably not as an undivided country, but so sustainable that the population would have been spared the return journey to the Middle Ages. The domestic politically motivated express withdrawal of the USA, Trump's legacy and Biden's discouragement to correct the wrong decision were also wrong.
Kabul falls, the government is creeping away, Western employees are fleeing the country - what a disaster. Afghanistan is heading for a humanitarian catastrophe. Anyone who considers this to be a regional problem will be taught otherwise by the huge refugee movements that are coming to the West in the coming years.
