The apprenticeship market in the Dachau district is also feeling the effects of the corona pandemic.

Many companies lack applicants.

According to figures from the Federal Employment Agency from the end of June, there are currently 292 vacant apprenticeships in the district. There are 198 applicants who have not yet received this offer. In purely arithmetical terms, there are 1.5 apprenticeships for every unsupported applicant in the district. “Our training companies continue to rely on the training of their own young skilled workers. They more than live up to their corporate and social responsibility and offer more apprenticeship positions than there are applicants, ”says Werner Mooseder, chairman of the IHK regional committee Dachau.

The problem: Due to the corona pandemic, almost all career orientation measures were canceled this year, as in the previous year. Trial internships, training fairs and personal application interviews could often not take place at all or only to a very limited extent. The important application phase in spring also suffered from the lockdown. Mooseder emphasizes: “Nonetheless, we are relying on a catch-up effect until the beginning of the training year in September. School leavers who have not been taken care of or who are undecided still have every chance of finding a suitable training position! "

In any case, the corona restrictions would have delayed many processes. Compared to previous years, some training contracts are likely to be concluded two or three months late. Nonetheless, it remains “our goal this year that every school leaver willing to train also begins an apprenticeship,” said Mooseder.

However, the number of applicants for the vacant apprenticeship positions in the district has decreased compared to 2020 - this year by more than three percent, according to data from the employment agency. Their details relate to all areas of the apprenticeship market, which in addition to the IHK area - that is, the companies in industry, trade and services - also includes the craft, liberal professions and the public service. In terms of the number of apprenticeships offered, the employment agency for the district posted a small minus of 0.6 percent.

“After numerous apprenticeship positions remained vacant last year, some companies have given up the active search for apprentices. The situation remains very difficult for the industries still affected by Corona restrictions, such as gastronomy, tourism or the event sector. Even those who offer apprenticeships sometimes have major problems finding applicants there, ”continues Mooseder.

What is particularly sad about it is: “We are envied worldwide for the quality of our unique dual training.

Unfortunately, more and more school leavers are opting for direct study, which does not necessarily end with better career prospects. ”He believes that many young people are better advised to start with practical training.

Later professional training or university studies are not excluded, but “supported with professional experience”.

The Chamber of Industry and Commerce for Munich and Upper Bavaria recorded 8,362 newly concluded training contracts for the Upper Bavarian administrative region in the first half of the year, a decrease of almost six percent compared to the same period in the previous year.

The IHK stands for around 60 percent of all apprenticeships and supports more than 200 training companies from industry, trade and services in the district.
