Abandonment and abdication of responsibility:
US President Joe Biden spoke tonight (Monday) and blamed the Taliban occupations on the Afghan army and leadership.
Biden stressed that he was behind his decision to withdraw US military forces from the country, but noted that the collapse came sooner than expected in Washington.
The president made it clear that the Americans would not die in a war that the Afghans were unwilling to fight.
"We gave everything and paid salaries, but they had no desire to fight," he said.
"I know my decisions will face criticism but I will not pass this decision on to another president and I will not ask our soldiers to fight endlessly in another nation's civil war. I do not regret the decision to end the American war in Afghanistan," Biden said in his speech.
"In the coming days, we will evacuate thousands of American citizens from Afghanistan," he added. "Ours will be quick with the Taliban attacking our people. We made many mistakes during our war in Afghanistan. In the coming days the military will help more people and allies of the United States get out of Afghanistan."
He said the war in Afghanistan was not originally intended to establish democracy in the country, but to prevent terrorist attacks on the United States as happened in the 9/11 attacks, when the terrorist organization al-Qaeda carried out mega-attacks on the Twin Towers and the Pentagon. "We killed bin Laden a decade ago. We do not need a permanent presence - to fight terrorism," Biden said.
