Global Affairs Canada announced on August 14 the appointment of Rachael Bedlington as the Consul General of Canada in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
Bai Jingfang studied at Nanjing Normal University in the early 1990s and joined the Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade in 1992.
She has been the Canadian diplomat in China four times since 1995, including the Canadian Consul General in Guangzhou and the Commercial Minister of the Canadian Embassy in China.
She has been stationed in Malaysia and Sri Lanka. She has also worked in the Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs related to North American Free Trade Agreement negotiations, India and Southeast Asia affairs, and human resources. She was the Canadian representative of the "Follow-up Executive Committee" of the Darfur Peace Agreement.
Bai Jingfang will be the seventh Canadian consul general in Hong Kong after Hong Kong's return to China.
The former Consul General in Hong Kong, Jeff Nankivell, became the president and executive officer of the Vancouver-based Canada Asia Pacific Foundation in September.
