Dressing up is a lady’s nature. Medical cosmetology has been highly sought after in recent years, but careful cosmetology can become disfigured at any time! Dressing up is a lady’s nature. Medical cosmetology has been highly sought after in recent years, but careful cosmetology can become disfigured at any time!

The Consumer Council received a request for help. The female victim paid 30,000 yuan for a water-light injection treatment at a beauty salon. However, afterwards, the needle-hole marks on her face did not fade for a long time, and she was emotionally troubled. There were also women who injected hyaluronic acid into the chin and temples. After soreness, I felt severe pain, headache and vomiting afterwards. After laser spot removal, the other victim showed blisters, red marks, redness, swelling and itching on his face. However, he failed to reach a consensus on the settlement agreement proposed by the beauty salon, and the claim for compensation was unsuccessful.

The Consumer Council reminds that although such cosmetic procedures are advertised to be performed by registered doctors, the risk of invasive cosmetic procedures is high. The dosage of the injection, the depth of the needle penetration into the skin layer, and the control of the laser energy, if there is deviation, there is a chance. If the body causes permanent harm, consumers should think twice before patronizing, including obtaining the details of the relevant procedures, and understanding the related potential risks and complications.

In recent years, water-light injection treatments such as "water-light gun" and "water-light needle" have become popular. There are also beauty salons advertised as "painless." With a full understanding of the effects of chemical substances on the body, rushing into the skin will take a huge risk.

The victim of the first case, Ms. Chen, purchased a 30,000 yuan water injection treatment at Beauty Salon A.

On the day of the injection, Ms. Chen talked about her past experience of injecting the same type of injections, saying that the doctors gave her painful injections with a syringe at that time.

When the staff of Beauty Salon A heard the words, they claimed that there was a needle machine, the injection effect was even, and the pain was less than that of a syringe injection.

On the day of the incident, after the doctor injected Ms. Chen with a needle machine, Ms. Chen’s face was red and swollen, and her forehead, cheeks and chin also left neat rows of small needle holes. The staff and female doctors all indicated that the redness and swelling and needle holes were on both sides. It will gradually disappear within a week.

A row of needle holes has not faded in 4 months

About a month later, the redness and swelling on Ms. Chen's face has disappeared, but the rows of needle holes are still clearly visible, and the needle holes seem to be surrounded by the injection, and I feel that there are protruding lines on the face.

Ms. Chen was very worried and went to see a doctor on her own. The dermatologist explained that the injection was too superficial and the hyaluronic acid remained on the surface of the skin.

After reporting to Beauty Salon A, Ms. Chen used a thermal machine to accelerate the dissolution of hyaluronic acid according to the doctor's recommendation in Beauty Salon A. However, the situation has not improved after 4 months.

Ms. Chen bluntly said that in the past few months, her emotions have been greatly affected, and she has completely lost confidence in Beauty Salon A. She asked the Consumer Council to intervene. After repeated negotiations between the two parties, Beauty Salon A finally agreed to return the full amount to Ms. Chen, and the two parties also signed a settlement agreement. .

After a woman was injected with hyaluronic acid, she experienced swelling and pain at both temples, headache and nausea. The family doctor pointed out after consultation that it might be caused by a high dose of injection at the same time.

Shortness of breath and nausea after injection of hyaluronic acid

Another case involved discomfort after injection of hyaluronic acid.

The victim, Mrs. Li, purchased an injection treatment at Beauty Salon B for RMB 7,200, including injections of 1ml and 3ml of hyaluronic acid into the chin and temples respectively.

Mrs. Li said that when he injected about half of the dose that day, he felt severe pain and immediately expressed the pain. The staff of the beauty salon notified the doctor to pause for a while, and the doctor waited for about ten seconds before continuing the injection.

Mrs. Lee felt a little short of breath and nauseated afterwards, and went home after resting in the beauty salon for about half an hour.

The staff of Beauty Salon B greeted Mrs. Li through a mobile phone message that night. She replied that both temples were swollen and painful, and she felt headache and nausea. She needed to take medicine to relieve the pain. The staff reminded her to use ice packs to relieve the pain.

The next day, Mrs. Li felt the position of the teeth pull and abnormal pain, she could only eat liquid food, so she consulted the family doctor, who explained that it might be caused by the high dose at the same time.

Mrs. Li then reported to Beauty Salon B that the staff suggested that the doctor in the beauty salon should follow up and inject her with a dissolving needle to resolve her discomfort.

Li Tai reluctantly followed the instructions to make an appointment to meet with the beauty salon doctor. The doctor first performed a dissolving needle test on her arm. After the needle test, Li Tai found red marks on her arm and swelling and discomfort in the skin around the eyes. She suspected that she was sensitive to dissolving needles. , Decided not to inject.

Li Taisui contacted the Consumer Council for assistance. After intervention, Beauty Salon B agreed to refund all remaining treatment expenses and bear Li Tai's medical expenses in total about $15,000.

Small blisters on the face after spot removal

The above two cases succeeded in recovering the losses, but it was not inevitable.

Ms. Mai purchased the spot spot removal treatment at C Beauty Salon for 9888 yuan, including 5 picosecond laser and factor essence.

After the treatment, Ms. Mai felt pain on her forehead and there were many small blisters. The staff claimed that the skin on the forehead may be thinner, which can usually be eliminated within three days. She immediately applied moisturizing cream to remedy her, and promised that she would be remedied during the next treatment. take care.

After two days of rest, Miss Mai found that there was no improvement, some blisters on her forehead broke, and there were obviously several rectangular red marks on her face.

Beauty salon C arranged for Miss Mai to go to a designated doctor for treatment. The doctor provided an antibiotic anti-inflammatory cream. After using it, Miss Mai said that although the blisters disappeared, she was still red and itchy. She decided not to proceed with the treatment and asked for a refund.

C Beauty Salon stated that a settlement agreement must be signed before the refund can be processed. Miss Mak believed that the provisions unilaterally protected C Beauty Salon, so she refused to sign and complained to the Consumer Council.

The Consumer Council mentioned that the two parties in consumer disputes can negotiate on how to resolve the dispute. Signing a settlement agreement is one of the feasible ways. This can clearly record the details of the agreement, and the content of the agreement depends on the wishes of both parties.

Ms. Mak is concerned about the complexity of the agreement drafted by C Beauty Salon, and it seems that it only protects the company's interests.

The Consumer Council has conveyed Miss Mai’s opinion, but C Beauty Salon refused to amend it, and reiterated that Miss Mai must sign a settlement agreement for the full refund.

Miss Mak said that she would consider consulting independent legal advice before making a decision.

There have been serious and fatal accidents involving invasive medical procedures involving beauty companies in Hong Kong in the past, including manslaughters by DR Medical Beauty Group.

After a 46-year-old female customer received a course called CIK in 2012 that claimed to strengthen immunity, she suffered a bacterial infection and died of organ failure.

The female doctor involved in the case, Mai Yunling, was finally sentenced to three and a half years in prison.

According to the Consumer Council, in the first two cases, needles were used to puncture the skin to inject chemicals into the skin. However, when beauty salons recommended such injection treatments, they often focused on explaining the facial effects created after injections. If you have a full understanding and do not fully understand the effects of chemicals on your body, if you rush it into your skin, you will be at great risk.

Secondly, the puncture process may cause skin damage, such as improper handling of the injection process or poor environmental equipment, which may increase the risk of infection.

For the beautiful-looking consumers who are willing to take risks, even if they are mentally prepared in advance to withstand the pain of the injection process, they cannot estimate all the possible physical reactions or sequelae after the injection. Just as in the second case, the victim felt shortness of breath and nausea after receiving the injection. People have hidden health problems, which may induce other serious conditions that endanger their health.

Although the victims of Case 1 and Case 3 finished the beauty treatment with the pain, they were left with a row of needle holes and blisters afterwards. This not only affected the appearance, but also affected consumers' mind and body. It also required the victim to spend extra time and money to remedy the situation. It is still unknown whether the skin can return to its original state.

In 2018, a 52-year-old woman died after taking Botox at a medical aesthetic clinic.

Li Hongbang, a well-known plastic surgeon specialist, was charged with manslaughter. The case will be resumed on November 24 this year.

At the same time, the three cases all reflect the need to be very careful when performing injections and high-energy treatments. The dose of the injection, the depth of the needle penetration into the skin layer, and the control of the laser energy should all be evaluated by a professionally qualified doctor. And proceed, otherwise a slight difference may cause permanent damage to the body.

The Consumer Council continued that there have been serious and fatal accidents involving invasive medical procedures involving beauty companies in Hong Kong in the past, prompting the government to conduct targeted research on the distinction between medical procedures and general beauty services.

The above cases are only the tip of the iceberg of complaints. Legislation and supervision of medical cosmetology should not be delayed. The definition of medical cosmetology services should be clearly defined. The qualifications of practitioners, equipment standards, and the qualifications of medical premises and equipment operators should set statutory standards and requirements. Can strengthen consumer protection.

Consumer Council: Don’t just focus on the declared beauty effects or treatment promotion offers

The Consumer Council reminded that the government’s private medical institution regulation review steering committee’s medical procedures and beauty services work report listed procedures involving injections, procedures for skin peeling below the epidermal layer of the skin by mechanical or chemical methods, and hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Teeth and bleaching should only be performed by a registered doctor or registered dentist.

The Consumer Council also pointed out that there are so many different names for beauty treatments, and consumers should not only focus on the declared beauty effects or treatment promotion offers.

If you are interested in receiving cosmetic injections, before accepting the procedure, consumers should ask the beauty service provider for details of the procedure, including what equipment and materials will be used in the procedure, to ensure that they understand the potential risks and complications associated with the procedure; It can also request information such as the name, qualifications and experience of the person performing the procedure; if a beauty service provider refers a doctor to perform the procedure, consumers should remember to request the beauty service provider to provide the doctor’s full name in writing for consumption Those who can verify the professional qualifications of doctors in the Register of Registered Doctors of the Medical Council of Hong Kong.

If in doubt, consult professional medical advice first.

Consumers should also keep proper receipts and medical records. If they feel unwell or have abnormal skin conditions, consumers should notify the beauty salon as soon as possible.

Beauty salons generally provide some recommended remedies. However, consumers should carefully evaluate whether the relevant solutions are safe and feasible. If in doubt, they should first consider consulting professional medical advice.

Consumers should consult with beauty salons for medical expenses before seeking medical treatment. Some beauty salons may arrange for consumers to visit designated doctors’ clinics. Evidence in writing and keep relevant medical records for proof when necessary.

If the consumer fails to negotiate with the beauty salon, he can also contact the consumer association to follow up on a case-by-case basis.
